This symposium will focus on functional polymers for applications as sensors, in optoelectronic devices including OLEDs, and in the emerging field of energy-related materials. Prominent researchers from academia, industry, and government labs will provide an overview of the state-of-the-art and discuss exciting new developments in these areas. The presentations will be accompanied by a poster session, and ample opportunities for networking with professionals involved in polymer chemistry will be provided.

Poster Submission:  Using email, please send your title, abstract, and contact information (affiliation, mail and e-mail address, phone number) to Dr. Bin Wei (Henkel Corporation), . You must also register and pay the registration fee following the instructions above. Please note: Abstracts must be 400 words or less. No tables and graphics. The size of the poster board is 5' wide and 3' high. All poster abstracts must be submitted to Dr. Bin Wei by April 30, 2009.

Polymers for Sensory and Energy-related Applications

The symposium on “Polymers for Sensory and Energy-related Applications” was held on May 14, 2009 at the Paul Robeson Campus Center's Bergen Room, Rutgers University, Newark Campus. The symposium was organized by Prof. Frieder Jäkle. Dr. Bin Wei was the posters Chair and Dr. Nicole Harris (Sun Chemical) was the Exhibits Chair. Of the 90 registrants, there were 50 ACS members, 12 non-ACS and 28 students. There were 6 presentations focusing on new developments in sensory and energy-related applications. The poster/mixer session consisted of 14 industrial and academic posters, a commercial poster from Q-Sense and commercial exhibits from Q-Sense and Horiba Scientific. ExxonMobil and Sun Chemical were symposium sponsors.

Functional Packaging Through Chemistry

A very successful symposium on "Functional Packaging Through Chemistry" was held on October 29, 2008 at the NJIT Campus Center Atrium. The symposium was organized by Dr. Tamal Ghosh, and co-organized by Dr. Bin Wei (Henkel) and Dr. Ankur S. Kulshrestha (BD Medical). Dr. Bin Wei was the posters Chair and Dr. Nicole Harris (Sun Chemical) was the Exhibits Chair. Of the 72 colleagues in attendance, there were 45 ACS members, 18 non-ACS and 9 students. There were 6 presentations focusing on new developments in functional packaging for general commercial use, and for pharmaceutical and electronic applications. The poster/mixer session consisted of 8 industrial and academic posters, and 1 commercial exhibitor (Ciba Expert Services).

Biomaterials in Medicine and Personal Care

This symposium was held on May 1, 2008 at Trayes Hall in the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University. Of the 106 colleagues in attendance, 47 were ACS members, 35 non-ACS, 17 students, and 7 other. There were two presentation sessions consisting of 6 presentations and a poster/mixer session consisting of 17 industrial and academic posters, 2 commercial posters (Chemspeed, QSense) and 2 exhibitors (Dionex, QSense).

Green Polymers: Materials, Processes and Products

This symposium was held on November 8, 2007 at the Busch Campus of Rutgers University. Approximately 150 colleagues attended from 10 states as far away as Minnesota and Nevada. There were two presentation sessions consisting of 7 presentations and a poster/mixer session consisting of 27 industrial and academic posters.
