Our New Co-Chair
2008-2009:
Donald Drinkwater
Dr. Donald Drinkwater received his BS Chemistry degree in 1986 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute followed by his MS and PhD in 1991 from Cornell University in Analytical Chemistry with Professor Fred McLafferty. After 6 years at Texaco R&D and 5 years with American Home Products and BASF in Princeton, he joined Novartis Pharmaceuticals in 2002 as a Principal Fellow / Lab Head. His research interests at Novartis include MS and NMR applications for the structure elucidation of small molecule unknowns in drug development. He has served the ACS in a number of positions over the years, including a term as the Section Chair for the Mid-Hudson Section. He is a member of Alpha Chi Sigma, Sigma Xi, and Phi Lambda Upsilon.
Scientific Advisor
2008-2009:
Bill Metzler
Bill received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 where his studies focused on understanding protein-DNA interactions. During his post-doctoral studies at the University of Colorado, he used NMR to determine the three dimensional structures of various peptides and DNA. In 1990, Bill joined Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he is currently leading the Department of Macromolecular NMR, conducting research on protein structure and dynamics, protein-ligand interactions, and fragment-based screening.
